Jaipur/Kota: Rajasthan witnessed another spell of heavy rainfall on Wednesday, throwing normal life out of gear in several districts. The downpour disrupted both rail and road traffic and left many residential and commercial areas in Jaipur and Kota severely waterlogged.
According to officials, incessant rains triggered a landslide near Dara railway station on the busy Kota–Mumbai route. A spokesperson of the Kota railway division confirmed that at least nine trains had to be halted as a precautionary measure, causing inconvenience to passengers. Simultaneously, the overflowing Dara nullah forced authorities to suspend traffic on National Highway-52, a key stretch that connects Kota with Jhalawar.
In a separate incident in Dausa district, two policemen sustained injuries when their van rammed into a truck amid poor visibility and slippery conditions on the Jaipur–Agra highway. Police said the accident occurred during peak rainfall and the injured personnel were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
Jaipur, Dausa and Sikar districts also reported widespread disruption in daily life, with commuters stranded on waterlogged roads and several markets partially submerged. Residents complained of power outages and difficulties in accessing essential services.
Meteorological Outlook
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre attributed the ongoing heavy rainfall to multiple weather systems. Director Radheshyam Sharma said the monsoon trough currently stretches from Bikaner and Jaipur across Datia, Sidhi and Puri to the Bay of Bengal, while another trough passes through Punjab, Haryana and northeast Rajasthan. A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which has persisted since Tuesday, is expected to sustain rainfall activity in the state until at least September 7.
In light of the forecast, the weather office has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in Banswara and Pratapgarh districts, warning residents of potential flooding and disruption. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has also been announced for Alwar, Baran, Bundi, Bharatpur and nearly a dozen other districts.
Between September 3 and 5, the Meteorological Department expects heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer and Bharatpur divisions. Rain activity is likely to shift further westwards, with the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions forecast to receive intensified showers between September 5 and 7.
Preparedness Measures
Authorities have urged people in low-lying areas to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and adhere to safety advisories. Disaster management teams have been put on alert, especially in districts facing orange warnings, as officials brace for more rainfall in the coming days.
