Punjab is all set to roll out its ambitious universal health insurance scheme, which promises free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh per family per year. The scheme aims to ensure that every citizen has access to quality healthcare without financial burden.
As a pilot initiative, the program will first be implemented in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts, starting Tuesday. In each district, 128 registration camps will be organized to facilitate enrollment. Residents are required to bring copies of their Aadhaar card, voter ID, and passport-sized photographs along with a completed registration form to obtain their Sehat cards, which will enable them to access the scheme’s benefits.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that the scheme will cover both government and private hospitals, with around 500 private hospitals already empaneled to provide cashless treatment to enrolled beneficiaries. “Each family, regardless of the number of members seeking treatment, can receive coverage for over 2,000 medical procedures, up to Rs 10 lakh annually,” Mann said, emphasizing the scope and scale of the program.
Additionally, the state government is expanding the network of Aam Aadmi Clinics, increasing their number from the current 881 to 1,000, ensuring greater accessibility to primary healthcare services across Punjab.
This universal health insurance initiative marks a significant step towards affordable, inclusive, and comprehensive healthcare for all residents of the state.
