BSF Foils Gold Smuggling Attempt at South Bengal Border, Seizes Gold Worth Rs 1.29 Crore…

Kolkata, West Bengal – In a significant anti-smuggling operation along the India-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted an individual attempting to smuggle gold into the country, seizing gold biscuits valued at approximately Rs 1.29 crore. The operation was carried out at the Tarali border outpost, located in the southern frontier of Bengal, officials said on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the BSF, the seizure occurred on Friday when jawans on duty at the Hakimpur checkpost, under the Tarali outpost, stopped a man suspected of carrying contraband. Upon inspection, authorities recovered 20 gold biscuits weighing a total of 1.1 kilograms from his possession.

“The estimated market value of the seized gold stands at Rs 1.29 crore. The individual has been apprehended and is being interrogated to determine the source and intended destination of the smuggled gold,” a BSF official stated.

The operation was reportedly triggered by a credible tip-off about a potential smuggling attempt in the region. During questioning, the apprehended person admitted to transporting the gold from across the Bangladesh border, shedding light on the cross-border smuggling network.

Further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the broader network facilitating such illegal operations. The recovered gold and the individual involved will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for legal action under relevant Indian laws.

The BSF’s swift action highlights its continued vigilance along international borders to prevent smuggling and ensure national security, particularly in border districts prone to illicit activities.
