Delhi BMW Crash Case: Court Rejects Bail Plea of Gaganpreet Kaur, Orders Preservation of CCTV Footage…

New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Wednesday made a significant decision in the high-profile BMW crash case that shook the capital on September 14. The court rejected the bail plea of the accused, Gaganpreet Kaur, who was arrested in connection with the accident, and also directed authorities to ensure that all CCTV footage from the accident site is preserved for investigation purposes. The court has scheduled the next hearing for Thursday on the CCTV footage matter, while the main case will be taken up again on Saturday.

Kaur, 38, a resident of Gurugram, was arrested on Monday and subsequently sent to two days of judicial custody. She is accused of reckless driving that led to the tragic death of Navjot Singh, a senior government official.

According to police reports, the incident occurred near Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area, when Kaur’s BMW allegedly rammed into the motorcycle of 42-year-old Navjot Singh, who was serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs. At the time of the accident, Singh was riding the two-wheeler with his wife. The crash was so severe that Singh died on the spot, while his wife sustained serious injuries and remains under medical care.

Delhi Police have confirmed through medical examination reports that Kaur was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Her blood samples tested negative for alcohol consumption, ruling out drunk driving as a factor in the crash.

The case has drawn widespread public attention not only because of the loss of a serving senior bureaucrat but also due to the growing concern over rash and negligent driving on Delhi’s roads. With the court now actively monitoring the preservation of critical CCTV evidence, the upcoming hearings are expected to play a key role in determining the course of this case.
