Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday said that it was farmers and the Congress party—not the BJP—who compelled the AAP government to withdraw its controversial land pooling policy.
Warring accused the BJP of “trying to steal credit” for the rollback. He said the strong resistance and large-scale protests by farmers and Congress workers forced the state government to take back the decision.
“It is the farmers and Congress workers who deserve the real credit. The BJP is only trying to mislead people by claiming otherwise,” Warring said, challenging the BJP to explain its actual role in the policy’s withdrawal.
The Congress leader also alleged that the BJP and the ruling AAP were “playing a fixed match,” with AAP helping BJP to gain a foothold in Punjab.
Warring further reminded people of the pain caused to farmers during the BJP’s farm law protests five years ago, saying those wounds “are still fresh and cannot be forgotten.”
“No matter what games they try to play, the people of Punjab can clearly see their reality,” he added.
