“Punjabis Can Never Go Against Their Country”: Diljit Dosanjh Breaks His Silence on Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy, Explains Timeline and Slams “Anti-National” Label…

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – International Punjabi music sensation and actor Diljit Dosanjh has finally spoken out about the intense controversy surrounding his latest film Sardaar Ji 3 and his collaboration with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. Addressing a packed audience at his Kuala Lumpur concert, the global star clarified the timeline of the film’s production and strongly rejected allegations that he had acted against India’s national interest.

The controversy erupted soon after the release of the film’s trailer on June 22, 2025, which revealed Hania Aamir’s involvement. Her casting, coming barely two months after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, triggered a wave of outrage from several Indian film associations, political groups, and sections of the public. Many accused Diljit of “insensitivity” for working with a Pakistani artist at a time of heightened cross-border tensions. While the film was released internationally on June 27, Indian distributors withheld its domestic release amid growing pressure for a nationwide ban.

Diljit Clarifies Timeline and Condemns Violence

Speaking in Punjabi, Diljit carefully laid out the sequence of events to the cheering crowd.

“When my film Sardaar Ji 3 was shot in February, the cricket matches between India and Pakistan were taking place. After that, the tragic Pahalgam terror attack happened. At that time, and even now, we have always prayed that the terrorists receive the strictest punishment,” he said, making it clear that the project was completed long before the attack.

The singer-actor also highlighted the timing of the Asia Cup India–Pakistan match on September 14, the first face-off between the two nations after the attack, subtly pointing to the double standards of those criticising his film’s overseas release.

“I Kept Quiet, but That Doesn’t Mean I Was Wrong”

Diljit revealed that he had faced immense pressure and relentless media attacks but chose not to respond until now.

“I have many answers, but I kept quiet, kept everything inside me. Whoever tells you anything, you shouldn’t take that poison inside you. I’ve learned that from life. There are a lot more things to say, but I don’t want to say them,” he told the audience, earning loud applause for his restraint and dignity.

“Punjabis and Sikhs Can Never Be Anti-National”

Turning to the most serious accusation, Diljit expressed his disappointment with sections of the national media that attempted to brand him as “anti-national.”

“The national media tried their best to label me anti-national. But Punjabis and the Sikh community could never go against the nation,” he declared, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd.

Ongoing Backlash in India

Despite Diljit’s clarification, several Indian film associations continue to demand a permanent ban on the film’s release within India. Industry insiders say that the controversy has significantly delayed negotiations for a possible domestic release, even as the movie enjoys strong box-office numbers in overseas markets, including Pakistan, where it has reportedly set a new benchmark for Punjabi cinema.

A Star’s Silent Stand

Diljit’s calm but firm response appears to have resonated deeply with his fans worldwide. By choosing to address the issue on his own terms—and by emphasizing unity over division—the singer has not only defended his reputation but also reignited a larger conversation about art, politics, and the pressures faced by artists working across borders in turbulent times.
